About Casa Hogar Agua Azul

Casa Agua Azul is a safe house for abandoned and abused children of Guatemala. We are located in the village of Ensenda on the shores of Lake Izabal. We have been welcomed into this community since January of 2015, as three cultures, Indigenous, Spanish, and American united in prayer to fulfill a need.

A painful time in the history of Guatemala was in 1960 when a civil war broke out  lasting until 1996.  Many children were left orphaned from massacres in villages. Casa Agua Azul is located in the department of Izabal  where  in 1966 -68 the massacres started. Due to the loss of the many lives private adoption escalated. CNA the Counsel of National  Adoptions was formed to oversee the adoptions. In 2008 The Hague Convention stopped private adoption from Guatemala causing an even greater need with in the country.

There are a number of abandoned and abused children due to drug and alcohol abuse, extreme poverty, sexual abuse, malnutrition and the break down of the family structure. These are some of the reasons Casa Agua Azul exists. The need is great. We are located in a small peaceful village tucked away in the jungle. Next door is a soccer field and a school for the children. Our relationship with the local church is strong along with pastoral support. The surrounding beauty of nature along with our loving staff promotes healing and allows the children to grow in a safe loving environment.

You are invited to join us and our mission. Come for a visit and volunteer, meet our village, our staff and children. You will experience life from a unique perspective. Together our light shines bright bringing love, hope, and healing .
